I know this next question doesn't really belong here, but rather in the "install" forum, but since I have this goal -Unicode- shining brightly over there just round the corner, I hope you'll excuse my choice of forums.

Now I have upgraded to 4.0. Works fine. And I have upgraded to 4.1.12, and works almost fine. The only problem is with the "long" passwords. I don't understand what is meant by this passage in the manual "Upgrade all client programs to use a 4.1.1 or newer client library".

I would not want to fiddle around with these --old-password -options, because the only clients I will be having, are all situated right here in the localhost. And it would be more straightforward to deal with only one type of passwords, the "long" ones of 4.1.12 -type.

But I am not able to connect to mysql whether I give a "long" or "short" password to root in the "user" -table. I always get the error message in which I am told to upgrade my client.

Where is this "client library" which should be upgraded? And how I will go about once I try to connect with Php? How do I upgrade it to use "long" passwords?

My next question hopefully will be about the real thing - the actual Unicode!
