No need to REPAIR.

The MEDIUMTEXT could be turned back into TEXT via ALTER TABLE, but I would not bother -- a lot of effort to gain 1 byte.

You have always used SET NAMES utf8 (or the equivalent) when inserting UTF8 bytes? (I hope.)
