Thank you for the quick reply! But i think there is a misunderstanding:
I don't want to add a new charset, i want to use a new collation for the existing utf8-charset. I did it as described in
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/adding-collation-unicode-uca.html ("UCA collations for Unicode character sets can be added to MySQL without recompiling"). And nearly everything works fine. I can use the new collation without recompiling and can do order and select statements and so on. Only the Functions LOWER and UPPER on a column with the new collation causes the errors i described. And i couldn't find any related stuff for this problem.
