Could it be that your tables are fine, but that the viewers
you are using are screwing up the display of data?

In Navicat, you must have the Connection Properties set right
to be able to see non-US characters. (Right-click on your
connection for a menu.) If "Encoding" is set to anything
other than "Default", Navicat will correctly display only
the character set specified there.
