I'm not an expert, but how do you save space using utf16 instead of utf8 ?
From what I've found out, UTF16 uses more bytes than utf8 in storing the characters.
Please explain to me if you like.
I am interested too in the utf16 vs utf8 problem and the supporting of utf16 in mysql, but because I thought that with utf16 you can store character in every possible language, not for space saving rationale.

thanks
