edit-- know what? i guess everyone can nevermind this inquiry-- i just realized that i didn't need to worry about the comma's being a part of the varchar value-- i thought i was going to get a syntax error due to a comma preceding the "closing quote".

i don't know if you follow me there, but it was just my own inexperience and lack of experimenting before coming for help... thanks for reading anyway.
