Can't send unicode via ODBC connection

I've setup MySQL 5.0 on a linux box, and have set default character set to be
UTF8. I can use MySQL query browser to examine, and input, data, which is displayed OK
on a web browser, using PHP.

What I cannot do, but would like to, is to use Access as a front end, and import data
using an ODBC connection. I have MySQL ODBC driver 3.51 installed, but when I do a transfer, the data reverts to single byte characters, and I lose the unicode.

So I have to face exporting my data from Access, and creating sql files to input to
Query browser - UNLESS someone on this forum has solved this problem ?

Most grateful for any assistance!
