Migrate SQL files after crash

Hi,
My server running on a mandrake 8.1 crashed yesterday (some hardware burned)

I'll make a new server (new hardware and new software) with a mandriva2009

My problem is, I can get my old hard disk, i can get my old mySQL files, but I am not sure i ll be able to restart my old mySQL server, so I won't be able de dump my Database.

Can I just copy the files from my old disk to my new mySQL folder ?
Versions will be so different that I think this can t work.

Is there a simple way ?

Thanks for any help.

Joel
