4.0.22 to 5.x

I've got a very old 4.0.22 version of MySQL running on a windows 2000 server. I would like to upgrade to the latest stable release of 5.x (5.5?) on a windows 2003 server.

Is it possible to skip the normal upgrade one version at the time when not upgrading in place on the same server?

What's the best way to go about this?

Jim
