Some feedback ...
We used the migration toolkit in combination with a home made small java app customised for out setup for copying the blobs. The cause of our problem with the migration toolkit might lay in the configuration of the databases. I haven't found the time to take a deep look into the problem and things needed to be done fast.
Thanks for the Migration Toolkit, it was a huge help!
