Migrating from MS Access to MySQL

Hi all,

I know that this question has been answered in various ways, but none of the postings I perused have helped me.

I am using the latest Service Packs to WinXP and am using MySQL5.0. I have yet to be able to move an Access DB over to MySQL. I had done so successfully with the previous version of MySQL (4.?). I did this directly from within Access.

After upgrading to MySQL5.0, I realized my migrated database disappeared. So, again from within Access I attempted to migrate the DB. Didn't work. Well, not quite, anyway. The table structure migrates, but noine of hte data makes it over.

Then I discovered the migration tool and figured there must be some new features in MySQL5.0 that required this tool. Didn't work.

Then I downloaded (and hopefully correctly installed) the JODBC driver thinking this might be the missing link. Didn't work.

When I activate MT, it goes thru the initializations and seems to make it all the way to the "Reverse Engineering Process" screen. Near the middle of the screen is displayed "Executing - Opening Connection". I hear a little activity on the hard drive, and then nothing (hard drive light stays on). I have to use the Windows Task Manager to shut MT down.

Help!!! Please...anyone who has any insight on this. I hope it's just a minor thing I overlooked.

Thanks in advance...Steph
