The derog Table lives on 192.168.3.208 and is MyISAM compressed. On host 192.168.3.50 a Federated table is created that points to 192.168.3.208. The max_allowed_packet is 4193280. The other Federated table (MyISAM) is abctrans1 which works fine from the Host 192.168.3.50 but is smaller. What is looks like is when a select is done ( in this case count(*)) the entire table is sent (looked in a sniffer) and runs until it is out of memory, which takes 2 minutes and 44 seconds. Then it crashes and returns 0 every other time until it is flushed. Almost like a select, in this case, requires the entire table to be in memory before it can work. This also seems to be the case on the other table abctrans1, but it totally fits in memory.
