Federated VS something like ISCSI (NAS)

Would using Federated engine be faster then using a network attached block device? We use several databases and they have large (400-500GB) tables each. I want to spread the load across either several servers (Federated) or several Block devices (ISCSI) to get the job done.
Any Opinion?
