Trouble with myisampack on partitioned tables

Is compression of partitioned MyISAM tables using myisampack supported? I have searched through the reference manual but did not find any information pertaining to this topic.

The tables are partitioned onto seperate storage devices and I get the following error when I try to run myisam pack on the tables:

table_name gave error 2 on open

User time 0.00, System time 0.00
Maximum resident set size 0, Integral resident set size 0
Non-physical pagefaults 231, Physical pagefaults 0, Swaps 0
Blocks in 0 out 0, Messages in 0 out 0, Signals 0
Voluntary context switches 1, Involuntary context switches 0

I am running version 5.1.11-beta-log on RHEL 4 AS U3.
