Partitioning without # of partitions

Let me first explain what I'd hope to achieve:

I have a geo-data table, which has state_ids (they're actually integers, but theres 60 some of them). It would be awesome to be able to say I want to partition on this key, but have the # of partitions be ever increasing. Much like just creating a table per state-data would work.

Is this possible, or is this planned?
