Table partitioning

we are considering upgrading MySQL 5.0.x to the latest version in order to utilize partitioning of tables. Our partitioning scheme will be really simple (one table with partitioning on primary key column which is auto incremented) but this is a large table and it's vital that the partitioning actually works as expected ALL THE TIME.

My question is: this being such a new feature; is it stable enough to be used in a critical production environment?
