Thanks Rick - I actually put the function around it in desperation in case the optimiser was thinking it was a string and not a date. With or without the function, the outcome is the same. I'm still stumped :-(
If you run the same code do you get the same outcome, or does your DB prune as expected? If it prunes correctly then there is probably something about the way my DB is configured. If you get the same outcome as me then it could be the way I'm writing the DDL.
