Thanks for having a look.

Turns out that partition pruning can only occur if the where clause directly relates to the partition key. In this case the optimiser can't / isn't collapsing the join down that way (as seen by Q1 referencing dd.date_id and Q2 referencing ff.date_id).

There's a bug open (has been for a fair while) on this :
