* What version of MySQL are you running? Newer versions have better CREATE INDEX times. Older versions: Do all INDEX operations in a single ALTER statement. Newer versions: separate ALTERs (see 'online vs offline).

* It might be better to partition by RANGE, without subpartitions.

* With InnoDB, you should always have a PRIMARY KEY, not add it later.
