Drew, I doubt it.
I have found _only_ 4 use cases for PARTITIONing for performance. They are discussed here:

If I ever hear of a 5th case, I will add it to that blog.
In general, indexing is just as good (for performance) as PARTITIONing. My "Use case #2", "Find the nearest 10 pizza parlors", is the only exception that I have found. That points out the difficulty in creating a "2-dimensional" index.
