Problem with searching short words

Hi All

I'm not a developer but we're urgently looking for some help please.

We have a job board which is running on PHP and MySQL. Our developer is using the fulltext search option, which works terribly for a job search. When candidates search for part of a word ie admin (administrator) they don't get all the results they should get. This is a serious problem for us, as most job seekers don't type out full words for job titles.

Does anyone know if there is anything else we should use instead of the fulltext search, or maybe have advice on how to get past this problem?
