Comamnds to search for a "value" in the table and/or databasse

I have a few questions about searching... I am a newbie, and loving MySQL! Any help would be great:

1.) What is the command to do a search from the MySQL Command line client to a table?

2.) What is the command to do a search from the MySQL Command line client to a database?

I am planning to use a JSP to enforce searching, I just FIRST want to see if I can do it via MySQL command line client.
