FQDN in MySQL Query Browser

Have been messing around with MySQL access privileges all day.

Can someone explain to me why on a remote XP machine (remote to the mysql server) when I use the host name "bread" in the connection dialog, I get a 10060 error on connecting. But, when I use the host name "bread.highhat.net" in the connection dialog, I connect just fine?

bread and bread.highhat.net both resolv to the same IP address on the remote machine.

Just thinking I don't understand these access privileges enough, and am trying to figure them out.

Thanks.
