Hi Jim,

Are you interested in using a GUI to manipulate the data in your MySQL database? Or are you looking to modify the data any way you can?

If you haven't already, I would encourage you to work with the command line client mysql. It can be intimidating at first if you've never worked from the command line, but it can help prepare you for environments where a GUI is unavailable. In a previous life I was a Solaris instructor and I would always encourage students to grow accustomed to the command line in the event that "bad things happen" and a GUI is not available. It will help you understand what's going on under the covers.

The general syntax for connecting to your database using the mysql command is:

mysql -u USERNAME -p [DATABASE NAME - OPTIONAL]

If you don't specify the database on connection you can use the USE command:

mysql> use DATABASE;

Once the appropriate database is selected, you can use the UPDATE command:

mysql> update TABLENAME
> set COLUMN = VALUE
> where SOME CONDITION;

Be sure to include the where clause or all rows in the table will be updated with the new information.

Hope this helps!
Brian
