innodb install on windows xp

I'm trying to install innodb on windows XP to do some development work. I stopped the service and went into the my.ini file and commented out the skip innodb line and uncommented all the lines pertaining to innodb. I then created the iblogs and ibdata directories in the mysql directory. When I tried to start the service I get the following:

Could not connect to the specified host

MySQL error Nr. 2003
Can't connect to MySQL server on localhost(10061)

I'm running MySQL 4.0.2 on an Apache server.

My computer crashed recently which is why I am having to redo this but before it crashed I got it to work by commenting out certain lines in my.ini. I would like to do it without having to do that again.

Thanks for any advice,
Todd
