random login issues

Since day one of installing MySQL on my system is will randomly fail to authenticate users with passwords. This is the only system that this has ever happened on to me. It happens at random, and as soon as I try again it goes through fine. Doesn't matter if I try it from command line, through php, or 3rd party software.
I spoke with one of the MySQL developers back in the Winter at Linux World, and I was told to create a trace file and send it their way, which I just got around to doing this weekend, but I'm unable to locate an email address.
If someone could help me shed some light on this subject that would be great! I will be more than happy to send the trace file to one of the developers if they want to look at it.
