Which distro? Windows with the archive engine

I've downloaded and installed the complete distribution 4.1.9 for windowns and it works fine. Reading in the manual I saw the archive engine type was available. Further reading and expermentation leads me to believe this storage engine is ONLY available on Unix/Linux if you compile the source yourself. Is this true? Or what distribution of MySQL do I need to use?

I've tried to do the sql to create an engine=archive table, but it makes an innodb (default) table instead.

Thanks
Brian
