I just finished installing MySQL and I am getting the exact same error. There are no .err files in my data directory, and I've added a my.ini file to my WINNT directory with the following:

[mysqld]
# set basedir to your installation path
basedir=D:/mysql
# set datadir to the location of your data directory
datadir=D:/mysql/data


Please help!
