Can you redirect where an RPM install puts things

I am fairly new to MySQL and previously have installed MySQL using binary distributions which allowed me to control where I placed things (like a dedicated NFS mount for mysql) including data. It appears that Oracle is no longer providing binary distributions and I will have to download a RPM package bundle instead. I have done this for my RHEL server. Now the question is ... can I using rpm (or yum) use an option that will redirect where things go rather than to /usr (for files) and /var (for logs and data)? Thanks in advance for the help.
