Is it necessary to install the client program when installing the server ?

Hello,

I have noticed that under Fedora, the server package depends on the client package but I'm wondering if it's just for the ease of use or if it's really needed.

I would like to know if it's necessary to install the client program (`mysql`) when installing the server. If it's not necessary, I guess it's a good practice to not install the client program.

In other words, if I'm on the server, can I assume that the `mysql` command is installed ?

I am asking the question because I try to automate the installation of a library of UDF: the library must be built and installed on the server without the client program but the SQL code to install the functions could be run from another host.

Thanks in advance,
Mathieu
