Navicat on Debian Problem

HI,
a question from newbie about Navicat:
I have installed Mysql 4.1 on my Debian box (sarge x86), and am trying to access it with Navicat. The DB works perfectly out of the box, and I can access it with the command line client and mysqlnavigator. Navicat also works straight out of the box, and can connect to a remote server, but when I try to connect locally I get HY000Host ocalhost.localdomain not allowed to connect to this mysql server. But mysqlnavigator does exactly that?
I am using the standard settings after install, did not change anything.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Best wishes
Andreas
