Interesting ... my system doesn't do this.
I'm runnig MySQL 4.1.1-alpha on WinXP and have no disk activity, when no application is using the database. MySQL is running as a windows service and starts up automatically after booting.
I'm foing the following:
- My notebook computer is in sleep mode most of the day
- Once a day, triggered by the Windows task scheduler, it awakes and starts a Visual Basic program that collects some data from the internet and writes it in a MySQL database. The program runs two minutes.
- Five minutes later the notebook falls asleep again (as set in the power management options of Win XP)
I did not set any special options for MySQL, in fact I not even have a MySql.cnf file.
