AUTO_INCREMENT converts 0 values

Turning on AUTO_INCREMENT on a column changes a 0 value in the column to the AUTO_INCREMENT value as if it is a newly inserted value.

Is this expected behaviour ?

Using 4.1.4-gamma on Linux.
