Upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 - Need Help

Hello Folks.

I am new to MySQL. I have a current installation of 5.0.51a on Ubuntu 8.10. I am interested in knowing, how do I upgrade to 5.1.

I read the documentation, however, I am not able to understand it :-(
What I fail to understand is "what steps need to be executed to perform upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1"

Typically I would expect, for instance
1. Download 5.1 non-rpm binary
2. Unzip/Untar in a directory
3. Backup complete 5.0.51a database(s)
4. Run "some" sql scripts to update the mysql/information_schema

etc...

This is what I would like to have. I understand other databases such as Oracle/DB2 have sql scripts and binary lib changes when they upgrade.

Does MySQL have something similar to be performed?

I checked section 2.12 and 2.12.1 and it talks about "Before" and "After" steps.. and the "Upgrade issues", however, does not tell the "Actual steps" or step by step procedure to follow, to perform the upgrade.

Did I overlook something?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
