I'm getting the following error message when I try to make a connection using PHP:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client.

MySQL is running as a service on windows 2K Pro ...
the service is running ...
I can connect from the command prompt ...
the page was working under a previous version of MySQL (4.0.xx) ...
the page quit working after I upgraded to version 4.1.5-gamma ...
the databases are completely new, I did not transfer the old databases ...

anyone else run into this problem?
