Migrate 32 bit to 64 bit

Hi,

I have just migrated from my old 32-bit server (with mysql 5.0) to a new 64 bit one (with mysql 5.0, also, but 64 bits).
I have restored the database the "lazy" way - just copied the DB files from the old /var/lib/mysql/name_of_db to the new one, and voila.

Was this a bad idea? Do I have to do a proper dump in a specific way, to be able to restore it to the a 64 bit system, or do the DB files not differ at all?

I am experiencing performance issues, but there are other factors, I would just like to make sure this technique (or lack thereof) was OK.

Thank you
