Problem with MySQL 4.1 - PHP 4 under Linux

I've installed on my notebook Fedora Core 2, with MySQL and PHP. I've decided to upgrade MySQL from version 3 to version 4.1, since I need to use subqueries. I've downloaded the rpm server and client's packages and installed them. It works, but there's a problem connecting PHP with MySQL. Infact phpMyAdmin says that I have to install the connector with PHP, usually called PHP-MySQL. The problem is that i can't find this package for MySQL 4.1. Infact the package that comes with Fedora Core 2 is refered to MySQL 3: if I install it, it tries to remove my new MySQL version to reinstall the old version.
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!
