Removing old MySQL service after upgrade to 4.1.5

Hi. I've just tried to upgrade to 4.1.5 on WinXP Pro. I used the Add/Remove program feature to uninstall my old version. Then used the nifty new installer. It is, unfortunately, unable to start the service after install. I note that there is still a MySQL service listed (via Admin Tools/Services)--perhaps a left-over from my previous install. It is there even after I uninstall the 4.1.5 installation. Is this perhaps my problem? Is there any way to remove it?
