I take it that by message board you intend to use a web server and web pages. If that is the case then you would be better off locating everything, i.e. web server, MySql and any scripts (like PHP etc) on one machine so that it is centrally managed. The only time this would not be the case is if you anticipate very heavy traffic and would like to distribute the loads onto different machines.
