moving default location of /etc/my.cnf

How can I build MySQL from source so that it will look for my.cnf
in a different directory besides /etc/my.cnf? I'm trying to install
multiple versions of the server and I need to have all the parts of
MySQL under a single tree with no global dependencies.
I couldn't find an option to set this in the configure script.

Yours,
Noah
