LDAP Integration for a Newbie

Hi Everyone;
I'm looking to do some basic integration with an LDAP database, and am not sure where to start (google has been less than helpful). I'm running MySQL 4 and 3 on Windows 2000 Servers, and I need to integrate them with an existing openLDAP server running on a Red Hat 9 box. The goal is to eventually migrate from MSSQL and Active Directory by using pGINA, MySQL, and OpenLDAP. Our MSSQL environment has group-based access for several apps, which is how I would like to organize MySQL / openLDAP. For example, in our domain the members of global group SQL2KAdmins are allowed to administer the server, members of SQL2KSales has rights to run queries against our Sales database, SQL2KHR can access our HRIS database etc.).
We've configured OpenLDAP to mirror our Active Directory OU structure so that integration will be as seamless as possible, but I can't figure out how to make mySQL accept the new user groups as mySQL users with rights to the correct databases the way I can in MSSQL.
The point of this long bit is to ask: Where do I start??? TIA!
