Upgrading to MySQL-server-4.0.21-0 under Fedora Core 2

I am trying to upgrade MySQL version mysql-3.23.58-9 to 4.0.21-0 , using the RPMs. Initially I get an error:

error: Failed dependencies:
libmysqlclient.so.10 is needed by (installed) perl-DBD-MySQL-2.9003-4

But I do not appear to be able to rebuild the perl-DBD-MySQL-2.9003-4 with the new libmysqlclient.so.

Is there a simple way to get this to work?

What if I uninstall everything related to MySQL and start from scratch?

Thanks,

Michael.
