Re: Fatal error: Can't open and lock privilege tables: Table 'mysql.host' doesn't exist

I give up on trying to start the server with the mysqld_safe script. I am able to start the server without a problem when I run the "mysql.server start" script.

Can anyone tell me, is there a problem with me running the mysql.server script instead of the mysqld_safe script?

If you select to have the mysql database server start automatically when the server is booted, it runs the mysql.server script, right? So why is it recommended that you use the mysqld_safe script?
