Assuming that the MySQL server is running, do

ps ax | grep mysqld

Check the values, if any, shown for the --defaults-file and --extra-defaults-file options.

Also check the locations shown in the table for Unix, Linux and OS X systems in Using Option Files in the MySQL Manual.
