OSX: Change owner command: Operation not permitted.

I'm trying to follow the instructions on and I'm getting a little confused. I use SQL at work but I'm definitely not an IT master. I wanted to see if I could make my own database on my home system.

Anyway, the problem is that I can't change the owner, I just get an "Operation not permitted" for every single line. If I try to proceed then I just get:

Chriss-MacBook-Pro:mysql Chris$ chgrp -R mysql
usage: chgrp [-fhv] [-R [-H | -L | -P]] group file ...
Chriss-MacBook-Pro:mysql Chris$ scripts/mysql_install_db --user=mysql
WARNING: The host 'Chriss-MacBook-Pro.local' could not be looked up with resolveip.
This probably means that your libc libraries are not 100 % compatible
with this binary MySQL version. The MySQL daemon, mysqld, should work
normally with the exception that host name resolving will not work.
This means that you should use IP addresses instead of hostnames
when specifying MySQL privileges !
chown: ./data: Operation not permitted
Cannot change ownership of the database directories to the 'mysql'
user. Check that you have the necessary permissions and try again.
Chriss-MacBook-Pro:mysql Chris$ chown -R mysql .

I am really stuck. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
