RHEL7.5 mysql 5.7 will not start on reboot, no PID directory

Hi, I just installed mysql-community-server 5.7 and I find it does not start on reboot. It looks like the PID directory /var/run/mysqld does not exist, hence no PiD file can be written. I have tried to create it manually but it gets deleted on reboot. Hence this seems to be an install bug? or?
