Hi Mike -

Do you still have the binaries for 8.0.15 available? You should be able to manually restart the server using those binaries. If they are not available, you can download them. Could you try this?

I was not sure what you meant by 'decided to do an auto update'. Do you have some background yum processes that upgraded the software? Thanks if you could help me understand.

With MySQL 8.0.16, there is no longer a separate mysql_upgrade step, it is all included within mysqld, so the suggestion of running that will have no affect. You can run the binary, but it will give you a deprecation message and exit.

I will continue to try to reproduce this issue.
