Till proved otherwise, an assertion failure indicates a bug. But you've been asked to "repair a MySQL installation", so presumably the above is a symptom of the problem you've been asked to fix. Do you have any info on what elicited the problem? A power outage? Disk going full? Some other misadventure? Or nothing was observed?
And, what does the mysql error log say for when the problem appeared?
Copy error log entries to these fora as text.
