Hi,

Please note that the "Access denied" error indicates that the server is running.
So this is not related to the bug in the linked forum post, where the server would not start.

Can you confirm that you have this issue with both 8.4.1 and 9.0.0?
I think I found a possible cause where the installer silently fails to set the password for the root account due to an error from mysqld, but I can't trigger it with 8.4.1.
