Re: unable to start mysqld.service but command line works

Thanks Johny, I did try changing ownership and permissions, but only worked when starting from command line. Since this was a new installation (migrating from 5.5.8) I chose to stop banging my head against the screen and went with a reinstall using Fedora defaults and all is good now. The issue was SELINUX and although I could have modified context to allow use of the custom data directory, it was just easier to use defaults. I have migrated almost all my data to the new install of Mysql 8. I had one database that would not import even after several tries. The data was inconsequential so I manually recreated the database and data. Thanks for your help, all is good now.
